Havarti Mac N Cheese with Spinach and Ham

Havarti is my absolute favorite kind of cheese so when I came across this recipe from Betty Crocker, I was excited to try it!  I did things a bit differently by adding meat and veggies to the dish.  Here is my version.  There's a printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.
  • 2 Cups of Whole Wheat Macaroni
  • 2 Tablespoons of Butter
  • 1 Teaspoon of Salt
  • 2 Cups of Milk
  • One Package of Sliced Havarti Cheese (chopped)
  • 7 Ounces of Ham
  • 3 Ounces of Baby Spinach

  • Cook the macaroni as directed on the package.  Place the spinach in your strainer and strain the macaroni over the spinach.

  • While the macaroni is cooking begin cooking the ham.  We diced ours then cooked it over the stove stop on medium high heat for 8 minutes.

  • Also while the macaroni is cooking begin making the cheese sauce.  In 10-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Using whisk, stir in flour and salt. Cook 2 to 3 minutes stirring constantly with whisk.
  • Add milk. Continue to beat with whisk, scraping bottom of skillet until mixture heats to boiling. Mixture will thicken. Remove from heat then add the cheese. Stir with whisk until smooth.
  • Stir in macaroni, spinach and ham then enjoy.
